Colleen Rutherford Archer
Colleen Rutherford Archer is a freelance writer from Deep River, Ontario, Canada, where she and her husband Andrew own a small horse stable. For ten summers she ran a volunteer therapeutic riding program with her friends.
Before becoming involved with horses, Colleen trained dogs. The family Rough Collie Mackie received his Utility or highest obedience title at age three, while Shetland Sheepdog Vicky received her Utility title at age two. The present family dog, Jack Russell Terrier Miss Daisy, is not obedient.
Previous to the Galloping Goldrush series, Colleen published five young adult novels (Foxy and the Missing Mask, Riding High, The Touch of Something Wild and Collie Rescue with Penumbra Press, and The Horse Dealer with Borealis Press), a novella, and hundreds of articles and short stories for newspapers, magazines and anthologies. In 1984 she was the winner of the Vicky Metcalf Award for best Canadian short story for young people, and she has also won a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation regional short story award and an Ottawa Valley Literary Award.
Colleen has had four stories featured in the Complete Pet's Horse Tales for the Soul and Dog Tales for the Soul books. She specializes in equine trick training, and she has put on many shows for children and seniors with her Palomino Aurum, and her white pony Timbit.
