What is Happy Endings?

Fashioned after the very successful series of five, Horse Tales for the Soul books, Bonnie Marlewski-Probert is now compiling a new book entitled, Happy Endings.  "This book honors all the hard working rescues/shelters/and caring individuals in the world who open their homes and hearts to animals in need.  I have three goals with this book:

1. Bring together Happy Endings stories from around the world from people who have rescued an animal and now recognize the fact that when you rescue an animal in need, the biggest winner is YOU!"

This book is NOT political in nature, it is NOT about the abuser, it IS a book about the Happy Endings that happen every day in shelters, rescues and homes across the world.

2. When readers see over and over again through these stories that the real winner in any rescue is the person who takes the animal into their heart and I hope they  will think about getting involved for purely selfish reasons - because they want that kind of unconditional love in their lives as well.   Whether that includes volunteering at their local shelter/aspca/rescue, making a donation to a local group or taking in a stray in their neighborhood.

3. This book is designed to be positive, focused on the Happy Endings and ultimately used by nonprofits around the world as a fund raising tool.  We have three fund raising programs available on TheCompletePet.comright now that are being used all the time by nonprofit horse-related programs around the world to raise funds for their organizations.  To date, we have been using the Horse Tales for the Soul books in that program and Happy Endings is the first book that we are compiling that will be primarily designed to be used as a fund raising tool in these programs for rescues, shelters, and any other organizations who are in the business of helping animals!  Of course, all of the books (Horse Tales for the Soul, Dog Tales and Happy Endings) are now, or will be when they are released, available through bookstores, tack shops, Amazon.com, at TheCompletePet.com, through our 800# (800-700-5096), book clubs and many other outlets.  However, our goal is to expand our marketing efforts to include helping nonprofits to use all of these books in their fund raising efforts.  When we do this, the readers win, the nonprofit wins, the animals in the books win and more importantly, animals who are not in the book benefit by helping people see the value of caring for and loving the animals in their lives today!

How Do I Submit A Story For Consideration?

We are eager to see your story.  Please note that whether you have ever been published before or not, we have professional editors who's job it is to tidy up stories, dot the i's, cross the t's, etc.  What they can't do is to tell YOUR story.  Only you can do that.  If you have a story about a rescued animal that you have brought into your life, please read on:

Criteria for inclusion in Happy Endings

1. 1200 words or less,

2. Stories must be true,

3. Stories can be about any type of animal.  To date, we have stories included from people who submitted stories about their dog, cat, horse and cattle.

4. Stories MUST focus on the happy ending, not on the abuser, not on the abuse.  We have had to return more than 50% of all the stories submitted for consideration because they were written by well meaning folks who chose to devote 1150 words to discuss the irresponsible behavior of the previous owner and then closed the story by saying, and by the way, the animal was adopted and lived happily ever after.   I have no issue with the inclusion of the animal's past as it pertains to the challenges faced during the road to the happy ending, but the focus is on getting to the happy ending.

5. Every author who's story is selected for inclusion will be invited to write a 100-word-or-less biography on themselves.  In that bio, you are welcome to share any information that you feel readers would like to know about you, your life, your work, your organization, your background with animals.  This is completely up to you.  I am happy to include your contact information if you want to include it, or not, if you prefer.

6. All stories can be e-mailed to me directly at brmp@aol.comIf you have any questions, don't hesitate to shoot me a note!

7.  We will continue to review stories for possible inclusion through the end of 2004, after which, we hope to be ready to go to editing and hope to have the book ready to go in the summer of 2005.
